  • Top Indian Tweets

Steve Ziemba 10:03 am on October 2, 2009 | 0 Comments Permalink | Post Your Comment!

India surpassed 1 billion citizens years ago and now 135,000 of those are tweeting. Tweeple.in is a site that recently emerged that tracks the most influential of Indian Twitter users. Unfortunately the top twenty is comprised of celebrities and “SEO/SEM experts.” The first is a one way conduit of gossip and the latter usually follow around 20,000 people. Because a lot of Twitter users follow anyone who follows them, these numbers tend to be inflated in terms of how insightful the authors actually are. The following article compiled a list of the top 100 Indian bloggers, entrepreneurs and social media though leaders on Twitter. Aggregating the people you follow may be a great way to decrease all the clutter that clogs a lot of good conversations going on in Twitter.

  • Hong Kong Does a Trust Fall with Social Media

Steve Ziemba 10:00 am on October 2, 2009 | 0 Comments Permalink | Post Your Comment!

A recent survey conducted by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing found that businesses in the former colony have a very high trust in social media. For the most part, social media was trusted at the same rate as TV marketing. One area that social media truly excelled was when participants were asked which media was most effective in building a relationship with target customers. Seventy-one percent rated it as “Trustworthy & Influential.” The next most trusted were electronic direct marketing (50%) and direct marketing (41%). The cost of social media campaigns pales in comparison to the other options. We are likely to see a surge of social media marketing in Hong Kong because of these results.

  • 5 Reasons Orkut Can’t Kut It

Steve Ziemba 9:57 am on October 2, 2009 | 0 Comments Permalink | Post Your Comment!

It’s pretty rare for Google to produce a product that isn’t well thought out and useful. Orkut, their social media site, has not only lagged, but is quickly losing their key markets to Facebook. In the last few months, Facebook has had huge expansion in India and Brazil where Orkut was traditionally dominant. Doing a side by side comparison reveals the main problem, Orkut can’t keep up. They fail to fix bugs, profiles have too few privacy options and they have missed the app train. Users have an option between a constantly updated platform or one that is years behind. Without some seriously aggressive updates, Orkut may soon be a headstone in the social media graveyard.

Tewspaper, an online newspaper without writers, has launched with coverage of five major metropolitan cities - Baltimore, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City. Tewspaper scours social media websites such as Twitter and filters messages down to breaking news. One of the local sites, Baltimore News, brings algorithmically-filtered news to people in Tewspaper’s hometown. One of Tewspaper’s innovations is a system of filtering through the obscure and finding the relevant news on social media sites.

    Tags: Comcast,

Tired of hearing about its poor customer service reputation, Comcast says it’s moving to improve its customer service in the Twin Cities, where it counts 555,000 customers. Among the features of Comcast’s new Customer Care program: equipping technicians with high-tech handheld devices that can test a home’s entire network, giving every employee “Make It Right” cards to hand out to anyone who has a beef with Comcast, and even encouraging workers at the call center to smile when they’re talking to a customer.

  • WOM Bucks Recessionary Trend

Steve Ziemba 12:25 pm on August 24, 2009 | 0 Comments Permalink | Post Your Comment!

As the recession continues to put pressure on ad spending across most media, word of mouth marketing is one notable sector that has bucked the trend and continued to grow. Why the surge in WOM? Ed Keller, CEO of the Keller Fay Group and WOMMA member company, a research firm that specializes in WOM, explains it this way: “The number-one way that consumers make decisions is through word of mouth. Brands realize that consumers are willing to engage with them in conversation, and they realize that they have no choice but to participate if they want to be a part of the consumer decision making process.”
