James Whatley of 1000heads recently presented about the key digital trends for 2012. Keep your eyes peeled for:

1. The Internet of Things – Public data points through QR codes or otherwise will grow with smart phone adoption. Expect to see them best used to make life easier, such as bus stops for service times or retail for special offers.

2. Near-Field Communication (NFC) – Retailers will increasingly use this quick pay option to streamline the purchase process. It may take a while to have wide-scale adoption, but 2012 will be a good year to cut your teeth.

3. Integration – Yes, we know. Integration has been the trend since digital started. In 2012, expect to see digital better integrated in non-digital media. We’re talking tweets in magazines and Instagram shots on the nightly news.
