The bottom line is that more people are researching before buying, often in several places. The silent WOM of online reviews, blogs and ratings have a real effect on sales. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to measure the exact extent of lost revenue due to bad reviews.

However, the study also found which categories that consumers are most satisfied with online information. The winners were:

60% - Household appliances

55% - Automotive- and transit-related

54% - Telecommunications
