That 10% is drawn from 127 non-chain businesses that already use Foursquare, most hailing from the restaurant and retail industries. Why is this? It might have something to do with 60% of the same group having annual advertising budgets of less than $2,500. This is a bootstrapping group. Other findings include:

1. More than 90% use Facebook

2. Almost 90% use Twitter

3. More than 90% have a web site

These are small businesses agile enough to try new techniques with little investment. Does anyone know of similar surveys with bigger brands? We’d love to know. Please comment below.
