Everyone who has worked in customer service at any level probably knows the phrase “How can I help you?” What if that was changed to “How can I help you so you will refer a friend to us?” We are in a customer service age and it is essential to know who is breaking through the referral barrier. On Wednesday, WOMMA member Satmetrix released its 2010 Net Promoter Industry Benchmarks which examines the level of consumer recommendations in 17 specific competitive sectors across 7 industries. Here are a few highlights:
1. Airlines: JetBlue and Southwest both scored 40 points above the industry average.
2. Telecommunications: Verizon took the cake with a score of 41%.
3. Technology: Apple won the computer hardware sector with 78%.
The rankings are based on survey responses from over 19,500 consumers. It is calculated by the percentage of promoters, rating the company 9 or 10 on a 0-10 point scale, minus the detractors, rating 6 or lower.
