Twitter has taken the online world by storm in the last few years leaving many asking where it came from and how did it get so big so fast. Well, Twitter went live on July 13, 2006, but it’s seeds were sown in the early 80s when real-time text updates were developed for UNIX. The ball kept rolling as SMS text messaging, blogs, and social networking became mainstream. Before you know it, Shaq and Ashton Kutcher are Twitter darlings. The following graphic shows how all the factors melted into the phenomena known as Twitter.
