The scientific director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research at the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, Diane Finegood, has reiterated the oft-mentioned value of contagious health behaviors. That is to say, it’s always easier to change a habit if someone else quits with you, or diets with you, et al. Now, says Finegood, the logical push is to expand contagious, positive, health choices into the Web 2.0 sphere. Facebook and other internet marketing techniques are just the beginning.
“The Internet will be just one plank of Finegood’s planned research, which will assess mentorships and programs aimed at addressing behaviour and overturning what social researchers are calling the “normalizing” effect of living in a society where half the population is obese or overweight.”
