Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I book with the hotel that WOMMA has chosen for the annual meeting?

The success of the WOMMA Summit depends on attendees using the contracted conference hotel, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, to offset the sizable costs of producing the conference. WOMMA cannot meet contracted room obligations if attendees reserve rooms in hotels other than The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The risk of incurring financial penalties (attrition fees) increases with each registrant who stays outside the WOMMA hotel block.

How does WOMMA decide how many hotels and hotel rooms to book?

Sleeping room estimates are based upon past registration figures, expected popularity of the site, and our best projections for attendance. Good conference sites are in demand and groups like WOMMA contract with hotels several months to over a year in advance to remove rooms from inventory and to ensure enough hotel rooms for conference attendees. Once these determinations are made, WOMMA books the headquarters hotel, securing the best possible dates and rates. This is not an exact science. We build in as much contractual flexibility as possible so adjustments can be made as the conference draws closer. Contact Events@womma.org if you find a lower rate on a travel website. We want to know about it immediately to ensure you receive the conference rate.

Why is WOMMA charged attrition fees?

Attrition fees are not new to conferences, and hotels have charged them for many years. Attrition fees are applied when a conference group cannot fill approximately 80% of the contracted number of rooms. Attrition fees are compensation to the hotel for the rooms that might have been sold had they not been removed from inventory by WOMMA.
