Establish Best Practices and Effective Ethical Structure
WOMMA's International Alliance Program is designed to help establish Word of Mouth best practices and effective ethical structure around the globe. The International Alliance designation provides international organizations with the expertise and credibility to develop their own WOMMA affiliation within their country. International Alliance organizations uphold strong ethical guidelines for the industry in each region, and share information and best practices amongst the members.
Spending on word-of-mouth (WOM) marketing rose 14.2% to $1.54 billion USD in 2008 and is projected to reach nearly $4 billion dollars in size by 2011 (US). A key to enabling this growth has been the ability to provide clarity around credible, authentic and measurable word of mouth programs vs. deceptive practices that deteriorate the trust of consumers. According to John Bell, WOMMA President, and Managing Director, 360° Digital Influence/ Executive Creative Director, Ogilvy Public Relations, "...marketers see word-of-mouth marketing and social media marketing as essential. Done well and ethically, the trust, credibility and impact it builds is unsurpassed.”
Word of mouth marketing is about ethics and the sharing of honest natural opinions in a global environment! Many companies, however, get confused about how to go about setting up programs: Paying for opinions, scripting endorsements and not disclosing involvement as a marketer are surefire ways to create programs that backfire and lead to an industry that will need to be regulated and governed. WOMMA's International Alliance Program sets the standards for universal ethical and effective WOM.
