9. Understand and agree to comply with the understanding that if selected to serve on the MEAP, the member cannot promote the fact that she/he is affiliated with or a member of the MEAP in any commercial activities involving his/her employer or personal business affairs. In other words, and simply put, the prospective member understands and warrants that his/her membership on the MEAP cannot be leveraged or promoted as a public relations credential in any of her/his business matters; inasmuch as serving on the MEAP is designed to promote the interests of the industry, not the interests of any particular firm, employer, or enterprise.

Conflict of Interest

In order to avoid potential conflicts of interest or the appearance of a conflict of interest, members of the MEAP will not participate in any investigation that involves his or her employer, a direct competitor, or a client. A MEAP member should recuse him/herself in all instances in which he/she believes there may be an actual or perceived conflict of interest. If the MEAP Chair perceives a conflict of interest where the member has not recused him/herself, the Chair may direct any member to do so.

Confidentiality

MEAP members agree to keep all discussions regarding or relating to investigations and disciplinary actions strictly confidential. Investigations may not be discussed outside of the panel’s formal meetings. Any breach of confidentiality by a member will result in his/her dismissal from the MEAP.

Process for Application and Evaluation by Board of Directors to Serve on the MEAP

1. After the announcement of a request for applications by the Executive Director, a person interested in becoming a member of the MEAP shall submit an application to the Executive Director of WOMMA stating her/his desire to apply and set forth with specificity his/her background and expertise (including, but not limited to, educational background, employment history, and credentials evidencing a commitment to advance the interests of the word of mouth industry) as well as how he/she satisfies the criteria set forth above. Applications are submitted to the Executive Director for initial review and pending all qualifications being met will be forwarded to the Board of Directors for review, and a 2/3 majority vote by the Board members considering the application is required for membership.
2. After the consideration of the application and vote by the Board, the Executive Director shall communicate the decision of the Board to the candidate.
3. The term of the position is one year, from September to September.
4. There will be an email to all members asking for candidate submissions no later than August of each year. Current members of the MEAP will be asked if they want to continue in their role and must inform their Executive Director of their intent no later than July of each year.
5. If a MEAP member resigns his/her position, the Board of Directors will fill the unexpired term of this position.
6. MEAP members are publicly recognized on the MEAP web site.
Observer Status: The WOMMA Board at the request of the MEAP may put forward observers to participate as part of the MEAP. Observers have no voting rights nor are they provided any special privileges and/or opportunities if a full voting position on the MEAP becomes available. Selection or serving as an observer is not intended to constitute any type of endorsement, approval, or special recognition by the Board. Observers must comply with confidentiality and conflict of interest policies as well as meet all of the above standards. An observer must go thru the same approval process as a standard member of the MEAP. An observer will be considered as well as any other candidates that are identified to fill a vacant position via the above described process.

Discretion of the Board of Directors

The decision to select members of MEAP resides in the absolute discretion of the Board of Directors.
