Bill Johnston

Bill Johnston (@billjohnston) is the Head of Global Community at Dell, steering overall online community strategy, globally. In addition, he is responsible for the strategy of Dell IdeaStorm. He also leads unconferences for Dell related to social media and community, and also advises on many social media projects related to ROI and social presence. Prior to Dell, Bill worked for Forum One Communications as the Chief Community Officer between 2007-2010. He wrote the Online Community Report blog and newsletter and created and chaired the Online Community Research Network, conducting research on topics like online community metrics, ROI, and marketing via social media.

He is currently trying to become the mayor of all Starbucks in Hartford County. He has been at Aetna since 2001 and previously served as an artillery officer in the US Army, where he blew stuff up.

He is one of the foremost experts on eCommerce and retail “long tail” data mining applications and brings several decades of experience in industry and academia to his role. In this role, Doug leads a global team of analytics and strategy experts that use cross-channel attribution analysis and media mix modeling to help clients improve their marketing efforts across bought, earned and owned media. Prior to joining iCrossing, Doug was vice president of technology and co-founder of OptiMine Software, a search engine marketing analytics company specializing in bidding.
