  • The Community Management Certification Program is a multiple level skills training program designed to:
    • Spread common job descriptions and required skills for three distinct job functions associated with community management:
      - Community specialist
      - Community manager
      - Community strategist
    • Provide best practices orientation for the various roles and responsibilities of each job title.
    • Give an overview of the tools and techniques available to the community management function that provide both strategic guidance and management efficiencies.

  • The program will include three levels of certification; one for each of the three job functions listed above, and will include the following modules. Each level of certification will provide content and insights for each of these modules that is appropriate for the experience and skill levels of the participants in each of the levels.
    • Market Context
    • Program Management
    • Strategy/Leadership/Culture
    • Tools
    • Content and Programming
    • Policies and Governance
    • Measurements and Metrics
    • Community Management

  • The certification program will be administered in three sprints; one for each job function. The participants will start with the specialist level and then advance to the manager and subsequently the strategist level upon successful completion of each preceding level.
    • At the completion of each level, a skills assessment will be given to determine if the participant is eligible to participate in the next level of certification.

  • Each module will be authored by industry experts and taught by recognized authorities in the community marketing industry.

  • WOMMA will administer the program through its website and learning platform.

  • A schedule for each certification level will be published several weeks in advance of the scheduled curricullum.

  • Registration will be handled via womma.org
    • Each module will be authored by industry experts and taught by recognized authorities in the community marketing industry.

  • The program has been designed as a partnership between the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA), The Community Roundtable and ComBlu.

  • Community management is both art and science. As more brands integrate online community into their marketing mix, finding people with the experience, skills and understanding of the community dynamic is imperative for optimizing returns. It is challenging at best, and downright impossible in too many instances to find people who can be dynamic community leaders. So, companies and agencies alike are defaulting to hiring people who look good on paper, but in reality have little expertise to actually do the job at hand.

  • The industry needs standardized job descriptions, processes and training. That’s why WOMMA, The Community Roundtable and ComBlu collaborated to develop a community management certification program.
